Hot Sauce Day

OK… so Friday, January 22 is Hot Sauce Day!

What?  What does hot sauce have to do with TRAVEL???  Absolutely nothing… unless you sit back and remember an amazing sauce you may have had somewhere…

For example… I remember this sauce in Thailand that was absolutely fabulous… I would dip steamed vegetables into it and eat it with jasmine rice.  It was green, very chunky (it was made in a mortar and pestle) and really, really spicy hot!  But it was so good I couldn’t stop eating it!

There’s a neat little article on the Days of the Year website about Hot Sauce Day with a list of the world’s top 10 hot sauces from a 2014 survey.  So here they are…

10- Valentina Salsa Picante – made in Mexico

9- Texas Pete – made by accident in 1929!

8- Tabasco – it’s a classic!

7- Tapatio – a little sweet, a little garlicky

6- Louisiana Hot Sauce Original – Louisiana’s #1 sauce

5- Huy Fong Chili Garlic – thick, hot, garlicky… yum!

4- Frank’s Red Hot – buffalo wings anyone?  Mmmmmm…

3- Crystal – apparently people in Louisiana swear by this sauce

2- Cholula – another sauce made in Mexico, made with pequin peppers

1- Huy Fong Sriracha – it’s spicy, it’s salty, it’s delicious!

So what’s your favorite sauce?  Or where have you been that had a great sauce?
