5 American Wine Trips

When you think of taking a trip to a wine region, many people think of France or Italy, or even Australia!  (Yes, they have an amazing wine region!). But don’t forget the award winning wines here in the USA!

Stacey Lastoe wrote a wonderful article in Food & Wine talking about some of the American Wine Vacations.  So if you’re dreaming of sitting in the loggia at sunset with a glass of wine and a charcuterie board on the table, perhaps you may want to visit one of these places…

Washington state

There are plenty of wineries around Seattle to choose from!  But Stacey talks about Lake Chelan, an area about an hour-flight from Seattle, where Lake Chelan Winery pairs well with the Lake Chelan cheese that they also make.

Texas

Sure the Lone Star state is known for their barbecue, but head to towards Central Texas where the beautiful wine region has become a destination and not an afterthought.  Driftwood Estate Winery has some of the best views you’ll see!

New York state

It may have taken awhile to develop, but the area around Keuka, Seneca, and Cayuga Lakes has become a gorgeous wine retreat!  With so many wineries, it may be hard to choose!  But the Sheldrake Point Winery has a cool climate Riesling you’ll enjoy!

Vermont

Many of the wineries are open year-round, but Vermont’s wineries are probably best explored in the summer and fall!  Shelburne Vineyards has Bluegrass, BBQs, and beautiful vistas to entice you to visit- whether you’re coming for a wine tasting or purchasing a bottle to take home.

California

Of course Napa Valley made Stacey’s list!  Let’s face it, Napa Valley has dozens of world-class, award-winning wineries!  Maybe schedule some time at the Frank Family Vineyard or Sullivan Rutherford Estate.

What do you think?  Are there any wineries that you would like to visit?  Perhaps in your own state?  Tell me about your favorite winery!
