TRAVEL TIPS

Air Travel

Sydney's main airport is Kingsford–Smith International, 8 km (5 miles) south of the city. Kingsford–Smith's international (T1) and domestic terminals (T2 and T3) are 3 km (2 miles) apart. To get from one to the other, take a taxi for about A$22, use the Airport Shuttle Bus (called the TBus) for A$5.50 (it takes 10 minutes), or take the Airport Link train, A$5.80, which takes two minutes. Destination New South Wales has two information counters in the arrival level of the international terminal. One provides free maps and brochures and handles general inquiries. The other books accommodations and tours, and sells travel insurance. Both counters are open daily from approximately 6 am to 11 pm. You can convert your money to Australian currency at the Travelex offices in both the arrival and departure areas.

Airport Transfers

Airport Link rail travels to the city center in 15 minutes. A one-way fare is A$17. Taxis are available outside the terminal buildings. Fares are about A$45 to A$55 to city and Kings Cross hotels. There are a couple of shuttle-bus services from the airport that drop passenger at hotels in the city center, Kings Cross, and Darling Harbour for around A$15 to A$17 one-way and A$28 round-trip. Passengers with only a little luggage can save money by taking the state government run bus No. 400, to Bondi Junction. The fare is a mere A$5 for the hour-long bus ride, and is ideal for those staying at nearby Bondi Beach.
