5 European Honeymoon Hotspots

So all of those weddings that were postponed during the pandemic?  They’re happening… NOW!  And so I’ve been booking a lot of honeymoons in the last year!

So based on what I’ve booked over the last 6 months for honeymoons, I’m going to tell you the top 5 European Honeymoon destinations!  Ready???  Let’s go!

#5 - Ibiza

Located in the Mediterranean Sea, Ibiza is one of the Balearic Islands, which is an archipelago of Spain.  The climate is typically warm, sunny and dry.

It is a popular tourist destination with a very lively night life!  But not everything is about the night life on Ibiza… there are many quiet coves and beaches you can lay back and relax on!

#4 - London

The capital of England and the United Kingdom, London is a treasure trove of history!

With iconic structures such as Big Ben, the imposing Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, and Buckingham Palace, there is so much to see in the city!

And just in case you needed a day-trip or two, the White Cliffs of Dover isn’t far, and Stonehenge is just a hop, skip and jump away as well!

#3 - Florence

The capital of Italy’s Tuscany region, Florence has many Renaissance masterpieces.  The iconic Duomo (the cathedral with terracotta tiles on the dome that was engineered by Brunelleschi), the statue of David at The Galleria dell’Accademia, the Uffuzi Gallery that has Botticelli’s “The Birth of Venus” and da Vinci’s “Annunciation”, and the famous bridge Ponte Vecchio are just some of the many places to visit in Florence.

Also… Tuscany is well known for food and wine!  Have some fettunta (Florence’s version of bruschetta), panzanella (summer bread salad), and (carnivores rejoice…) bistecca alla Fiorentina (a T-bone steak from a local breed of cow).  As for the wine, Tuscany has many famous wines that hail from this region!  Some of the wines you should try while in the region are Chianti, Brunello di Montalcino, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and Super Tuscans.

A day trip from Florence could include Pisa or Cinque Terre.

#2 - Paris

Paris is known as the City of Lights as well as the City of Love.  Paris is also known for its many museums and architectural landmarks, such as the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, Musée d’Orsay, Notre Dame, Sacré-Coeur, and Montmartre just to name a handful.

Paris is also known for its haute cuisine and regional wines.  Some classic pairings include Tarte Flambée and Riesling, Goat Cheese and Sauvignon Blanc, Boeuf Bourguignon and Pinot Noir, and Comté and Vin Jaune.

#1 - Rome

The capital of Italy, Rome is known as the Eternal City.  I mean, what other city in the world has a whole country in it?  Rome is also considered to be the “cradle of Western civilization” in addition to its history spanning 28 centuries.

In addition to visiting the Vatican and Saint Peter’s Square, you can also enjoy the Roman Forum, the Colosseum, Castel Sant’Angelo, the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon, and the many piazzas such as Piazza Navona.  Sculptures and art can be found everywhere, from Bernini’s sculpture Fontana della Barcaccia near the base of the Spanish Steps, Bernini’s Fontana dev Quattro Fiumi in the Piazza Navona (Pope Urban VIII commissioned a fountain to be built in every piazza, Bernini happened to be one of the artists commissioned)… and all of the artwork in the churches!  Bernini’s Ecstasy of Saint Teresa is in the church of Santa Maria della Vittoria, Caravaggio’s “Crucifixion of St. Peter” and Carracci’s “Assumption of the Virgin” are in a minor basilica of the Santa Maria del Popolo, and even Michelangelo’s “Moses” is in the Church of San Peitro in Vincoli… but go look around, because entry into churches is free.

A day trip from Rome could include Naples, the island of Capri, Pompeii, and the Amalfi Coast.

So… did any of these cities surprise you?  Did you think they would be in a different order?  Or do you think another city is worth visiting on a honeymoon?
