What NOT to Pack in a Carry-On

Travel is back, and I’ve been booking a lot of short trips for people- people are really wanting quick getaways.  Short trips are great for traveling with only a carry-on…

So here are some items that you should probably, or definitely, NOT pack in your carry-on.

Shoes you can’t walk in easily

I’m really talking about heels.  Yeah, you can probably walk in heels just fine… but heels can weigh down your bag- it’s extra weight and extra space.  The whole point of not checking luggage is to travel light.  If you absolutely want heels in your carry-on (and there are legit reasons why you would), consider block heels which are ideal for summertime and easier to walk in than those stilletos, especially after arriving in a new place.

A neck pillow

I may get a lot of flack for this one!  LOL. A neck pillow can be bulky and take up quite a bit of precious space in a carry on… I’m talking about the more-comfortable fluffy, non-inflatable kind.  Really, wouldn’t an inflatable pillow save you that space?

The wrong adapter

You did research, you picked up an adapter for traveling to Mexico… last year.  But does it work in France?  Pick up a universal travel adapter and be done.

Dry clean only clothes

Sometimes they are bulky… and if they get dirty, do you really want to try to find a place to get your clothes cleaned?  Bring clothes that are easy to wash… in a hotel sink if needed.

A heavy raincoat

A great trench coat will probably get more wear than a heavy raincoat, and it’s more stylish… or maybe even go for those portable ponchos! (OK… not so stylish, but definitely saves room!)

Excessive skin care products

I soooo agree with this!  I mean… I love my skincare… I am a very devout user of a particular skin care line.  But when I travel, 1- I don’t take every single cream or serum I use… my skin can go without the extra luxuries for a couple of days… and 2- I don’t bring the full-size products… my favorite skin care line carries travel sizes!  (Besides, we have that “no bottles larger than 3.4 ounces thing…)

Weapons

This should be a no brainer, right?  No guns, ammunition, stun guns, tasers, knives, self-defense weapons (like pepper spray or brass knuckles), etc.

Flammable chemicals

Let’s just all agree that starting a fire on a plane is a bad idea.

So those are just a few things you should not bring in your carry-on.  Some are definitely no brings… some are my opinion for no brings…. What do you think?  Did I miss anything???
